In ‘Banna’i Labyrinth,’ José Cabrera Lozano pays a contemporary tribute to one of the most sophisticated decorative techniques in Persian architecture: banna’i. This work is a visual exploration of the knot and the path, where a network of crimson ribbons intertwines perpetually over a deep blue background. The composition evokes the structure of the brick walls of the great mosques of Isfahan, but under a digital light that grants each stroke an almost sculptural presence.
The design manifests as a metaphor for existence: a labyrinth of intersections where white provides the framework of order and red the passion of the journey. The background, with its diagonal mesh texture, suggests the fabric of the cosmos upon which our reality is built. It is a piece of overwhelming visual force that invites the viewer to follow the uninterrupted flow of lines with their gaze, finding peace in complexity and beauty in interconnection. Cabrera Lozano achieves here that geometry ceases to be an abstraction and becomes a tactile and emotional experience.
